Notes:

This Fall 2024 budget is an estimate only and was updated on 9/18/23.
Billable subtotal costs will be processed through your ISU U-bill.
Non-billable subtotal are estimated expenses that you will pay directly, out of pocket.  These costs may vary depending on currency exchange and other factors.

If a student withdraws after committing to a program, there could be withdrawal fees.

Actual amounts will vary from student to student (especially, for example, for airfare and anticipated personal expenses).  Some examples of anticipated personal expenses: SIM card and phone data plan, laundry, toiletries, entertainment, taxi/Uber rides.  Personal trips to other cities or countries during weekends or breaks are not included in anticipated personal expenses.  To give you an idea, students can choose to spend anywhere from $1000-$3000 on additional travel while abroad.

ISU Tuition and Fees will vary according to major and 2023-24 tuition rates will be published in late summer 2023.  Prices that are controlled by KTH (e.g. room/housing) are also subject to change and we've provided estimates based on information from the host institution.

Exchange Program: Tuition and Fees Explained

The term "exchange program" refers to a specific type of study abroad option in which fiscal arrangements permit a student to pay home school tuition and fees and receive similar benefits at another institution.  The tuition and fees paid by the outgoing student are used cover these costs of the incoming student.

Please note that you pay ISU tuition and fees to participate on this program.  Some items covered by ISU fees while you are in Ames, may not be covered/included while you are at KTH.  Common examples included the student gym and printing.  Costs for these services are included in the personal expenses estimate.
