Program Description:
UNIL - Université de Lausanne
Lausanne, Switzerland

The ISU exchange with UNIL allows ISU students to spend one or two semesters in Switzerland while students from UNIL come to ISU. You'll pay ISU tuition and fees and receive tuition credit abroad (your ISU financial aid and other study abroad scholarships can be applied to your costs).

THE UNIVERSITY

UNIL is made up of seven faculties (colleges): Arts; Biology and Medicine; Business and Economics; Geosciences and Environment; Law, criminal Justice, and Public Administration; Social and Political Sciences; and Theology and Religious Studies.

Classes are taught in French, and intensive French language courses are offered in the summer and winter breaks (cours de vacances). These are highly recommended prior to your time in Lausanne to supplement your skills at least at the 302-level.

HOUSING

Room and board fees are paid directory to the host institution (you can choose a room or studio in a university residence), or you can opt to find an apartment or flat in the public sector.

THE CITY

Lausanne is the fifth largest city in Switzerland (population 250,000) and is a popular tourist destination as well as home to many international corporations. For the sports-minded, Lake Geneva and mountains provide opportunities for outdoor enthusaists. Sustainability is emphasized, and the city is easily navigated on foot or by bicycle, bus, or metro. The city is a transportation hub; regular train service will connect you to two major airports (Geneva-Cointrin and Zurich-Kloten). Italy is only 60 miles away, Basel and Zurich two hours by train or car, and Paris under four hours by TGV.
