Program Description:
Conflict Resolution and Devolution in the UK:
Edinburgh & Belfast

Course: PolSci 387, 3 credits

Devolution (decentralization from the central government at Westminster to local governments in Scotland and Northern Ireland) since 1999 has allowed the UK government to address conflict resolution through new political institutions created.


Location: Edinburgh, Scotland & Belfast, N Ireland

Term: May 29 - June 16, 2017

During this three-week, three-credit program, students will:


Compare and contrast situations in Scotland and Northern Ireland—especially in light of the Brexit vote last June.


Learn about Scottish Parliament and the “Troubles” in Northern Ireland.


Experience the castles, charm, and culture of this unique region.


Scholarships are available thanks to a grant from the Council on International Programs at Iowa State specifically for this program.


Who is eligible? Undergraduate and graduate students from all majors and colleges are welcome. There are no prerequisites.
