A Semester in Italy: John Cabot University

John Cabot University is an American liberal arts university in the heart of Rome. Annual student enrollment is about eight hundred, of which 35% are four-year degree-seeking students and 65% are visiting as study abroad students. Of the degree-seeking students, 28% are Italian. John Cabot University has over one hundred faculty members, resulting in an average class size of 15 students.

John Cabot University is located within the historic center of Rome in the Trastevere neighborhood just south of Vatican City. This area is within walking distance to all of the main sites of central Rome and offers
easy access to travel within the rest of Italy and throughout Europe.

Language requirements
Classes are taught in English. You do not need any prior Italian language, but students attending John Cabot University are encouraged to take an Italian language course.


Academics
As a four-year degree-granting American university, John Cabot has a comprehensive curriculum with course offerings at all levels. Courses are offered in Business Administration, Economics and Finance, Marketing, Art History, Studio Art, History, Classical Studies, Communications, Computer Science, Mathematics, Natural Science, English Composition, English Literature, Humanistic Studies, Philosophy, Music, International Affairs, Italian Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology, and Theatre and Film Studies.

ISU registration for the term is a full-time placeholder registration listed as INTED.
 
For ISU study abroad programs at partner institutions abroad, courses offered for credit are automatically transferred to ISU. Transfer courses are usually listed at ISU with a general ending such as 100, 200, 300, or 400. To determine how these transfer courses are applied to specific degree requirements in your major/minor, speak with your academic advisor. Should you need further assistance or approval from your college regarding any transfer credit issue, contact the college advisor listed here:

Program Fee
The ISU Program Fee for Spring 2017 is $11,600.
The ISU Program Fee includes tuition, fees, airport pick-up service in Rome, and ISU's CISI health insurance. The ISU Program Fee does not include airfare, housing, food, and all other additional expenses.
The ISU Program Fee is charged to students' ISU bill. The ISU Progam Fee is assessed in 2 fees indicated as "qualified" and "other." "Qualified" figures are automatically added to the 1098T tax form that appears on students AccessPlus accounts. "Other" includes all other fees.

Application process note:

The Supplemental Application is the JCU on-line application. While it asks for you to submit a deposit, ISU students do not need to submit a deposit and you can submit the application without providing payment information. You will also see a request to submit an official transcript to JCU. You do not need to submit a transcript to JCU. We will forward your unofficial transcript that you place into your ISUAbroad application file. For Housing Applications you DO need to to submit the required deposit to reserve a room.


Summer Programs
John Cabot University offers two summer sessions of five weeks each for 6 credits each. Students may attend one or both sessions. The summer programs include an impressive selection of classes in the areas of Art History, Italian Studies, Business Administration, International Relations, Communications, and more. Summer Institutes are available in International Communication and Art Restoration.

John Cabot University Housing
Shared student apartments are available. Apartments typically house 2 to 9 students. Apartments are furnished and include kitchens and laundry. Single bedrooms are available.

Note: the JCU housing application is different than the JCU application system and you will need to create a different password.
Students DO need to pay the housing deposit at the time of application.
