Program Description:
New College of Design logo

University of Western Australia Exchange
(Primarily for College of Design, other students may participate with permission)

Overview

The College of Design and the University of Western Australia's Faculty of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Visual Arts participate in a reciprocal exchange agreement. College of Design students can study at UWA for a semester or an academic year. The program seeks to broaden the scope of the academic curriculum and to provide a unique learning experience for students in an overseas environment, as well as to promote cooperation between the two institutions. This exchange program is available to both undergraduate and graduate College of Design students, but it is limited to a maximum of three students per semester.

Campus facilities and the appropriate student support and orientation programs will be available to exchange students from the College of Design (the same incidental fees that UWA students would pay for these services would apply).  UWA will assist students in finding housing in UWA residential colleges or other accommodations.

Academic Year

The semester dates at UWA are different than at ISU. Students intending to study in Australia for ISU's fall semester would take classes during UWA's Semester 2 from July to November. Students who wish to participate in the exchange for ISU's spring semester would take classes in UWA's Semester 1 from February to June.

Students can enroll at UWA for one or two semesters commencing in either semester, and may enroll over two academic years provided the semesters of study are consecutive.

Tentative dates for Spring 2016 (Semester 1 2016) are:

Orientation: Begins February 22

Arrivals: Students should arrive a day or two before orientation if housing has already been pre-arranged. Students who have not secured any housing are recommended to arrive at least two weeks prior to the commencement of classes.

Teaching: February 29 – June 3
Examinations: June 6 – June 24 (Including 1 week study break)
Non-teaching Study Break: April 18 – April 23

Program Prerequisites and Criteria for Participant Selection

Participants in all College of Design international programs must meet the following requirements:
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Accepted into departmental program of study
