Program Description:
Please visit University of Waikato's website for the most detailed information about this "Enhancing Sporting Performance" program.

This summer study abroad is designed for athletes of all levels and students studying sport science and kinesiology.  The Waikato class, "Enhancing Sporting Performance," will be taught by faculty and experts from Waikato's School of Health, Sport and Human Performance.  ISU students will earn 4 ISU credits at the completion of this summer study abroad.

Course topics will be delivered through hands-on and experiential learning in the classroom, labs, modern gym, and trips to local sports organizations and facilities.
Topics include: nutrition, recovery practices, physiology and prescription, strength and conditioning, coaching, performance analysis, and biomechanics.

All students will be placed with a competitive local sports team and will have the opportunity to practice and compete with local New Zealand teams.

Included trips:  1) the University of Waikato Adams Centre for High Performance, 2) AvantiDrome cycling experience, 3) Noho Marae - a visit to sacred, Maori meeting grounds, 4) mountain biking and luge, and 5) surfing lessons in Raglan.

An additional, optional component is the "Chiefs Rugby Club: High Performance Add-on Package" -- opportunity to train with one of NZ "Super Rugby" Clubs and experience behind-the-scenes operations of the Gallagher Chiefs Rugby organization.  This extra package costs an additional $2300 NZD (approximately $1600 USD).
