About the Program
Program Description : The Global Health program is designed to enhance awareness of health issues in Argentina and the U.S., build cultural competence and sensitivity through interactions with local public health organizations, and facilitate understanding of the challenges of working in resource-poor areas. Learn how to become an objective observer of various cultural healing practices unique to Argentina and Latin America in the Comparative Healing Systems course, and explore the complex challenges facing human health today—like water security, food security, and climate change—in the Global Environmental Health course. You may choose an Early Start option to jump-start your Spanish language proficiency before the session begins.

Program Structure
You’ll enroll in 2 core Global Health courses, 1 language course, and 1-2 elective courses. Courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. You may earn a total of 12-15 credits (up to 225 contact hours); if you choose the Early Start option, you may earn 15-18 credits (up to 270 contact hours). Classes meet 1-3 times per week, Monday-Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays. Early Start language classes meet Monday-Thursday for a total of 22.5 hours per week. Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses and take a language placement exam. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Argentina. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
