A Summer in Germany: Universität Mannheim

Program Features

GermanyWhy study in Mannheim?

• It's a modern, medium sized German city with lots going on
• It's affordable
• Take classes in English
• The main university building is a palace
• Highly ranked academics
• It's in the center of Europe, making travel to neighboring countries a breeze

Where is Mannheim?

Mannheim is located in southwestern Germany in the state of Baden-Württemberg.  Frankfurt, the nearest city and international airport, is just 30 minutes north of Mannheim by train.  The charming town of Heidelberg is only a 15 minute train ride away!  Explore the surroundings on the below Google Map.

GermanyWhat courses are available?

Each year the summer school at Mannheim chooses a theme relating to language and culture. The theme for Summer 2017 is "Cultural Plurality: Language, Literature, Media".  Students can choose to take up to three courses from the five that will be available. The majority of courses will be taught by professors from North and South America in English. These courses are designed for undergrad humanities students. While a variety of majors may find the courses appealing, English, International Studies, and Linguistics majors will find the courses most relevant.

Cost and Scholarships

GermanyHow much does it cost?

The ISU Program Fee for Summer 2018 is $400. In addition to the ISU Program Fee, students pay a $180 Euro program fee directly to U Mannheim in advance of the program to confirm their participation.

The U Mannhiem program fee includes the course fee for 3 courses, welcome and farewell evenings, welcome package and city tours.

The ISU Program Fee includes fees and ISU's CISI insurance. The ISU Program Fee does not include tuition, airfare, food, and all other additional expenses. The ISU Program Fee is charged to students' ISU bill. The ISU Program Fee is assessed in 2 fees indicated as "qualified" and "other." "Qualified" figures are automatically added to the 1098T tax form that appears on students AccessPlus accounts. "Other" includes all other fees.

For more detail, select the term next to "Budget Sheets" at the top of this page. Check out scholarships on our website.

GermanyWhere will I live?

Unfortunately, the program cannot guarantee your accommodation. However, they will be glad to help you find a student dorm, shared apartment, and provide you with all the necessary information.  Students can write an email to the program if they need assistance. The program will be able to share information concerning available rooms at the end of April. Until then, you can keep a look-out for offers on their Facebook page or the University of Mannheim Facebook group.
