About Beijing

As the political, educational, and cultural center of China, Beijing is absolutely awe-inspiring! Rooted in the past and reaching for the future, the city sparks and hums with activity. It has more universities and research institutes than any other city in China, and a full 3,000 years of history are reflected in its art, architecture, music, and traditions. Looking for the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, or the nearby Great Wall? They’re here. Fresh life blooms among the ancient, too—while Beijing is chock-full of historical treasures, it also buzzes with restaurants, parks, theaters, and museums.

Program Highlights
  • Select any combination of 9 credits: survey contemporary Chinese culture paired with a Chinese language course or an internship, or focus exclusively on intensive language study.
  • Dive into China’s captivating capital city to explore the major social transformations in Chinese society and practice your Chinese language inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Distinguish yourself professionally and network within the Chinese business culture as an intern at a community development non-profit, research think-tank, environmental organization, or modern art studio.
  • Register for intensive Chinese language to exponentially improve your language skills, live with a host family, and take a language pledge.
  • Get away on an organized weekend excursion outside of Beijing.

PLEASE BE AWARE that most IFSA-Butler programs are "hybrid" programs, with some credits earned from IFSA-Butler University and some from the host university. IFSA issues a single Butler University transcript with all of your courses and grades, but If you take courses from both IFSA-Butler and the host school you will need transcripts from both schools in order to receive transfer credit for all of your courses.
