Program Description:
Island Landscape

Program Description
Undergraduate students will learn about the culture of the people of the Caribbean and U.S. Virgin Islands’ agriculture and ecosystems, while assisting with teaching about food and agriculture, including horticulture, soil science, culinary science, nutrition, environmental science, and sustainability, at a preK-12 school. Program activities for school children help them learn how to grow, prepare, and appreciate the many facets of agriculture and food and the environment. University students have the chance to assist with EARTH program outreach and development and explore the U.S. Virgin Islands’ ecosystems and National Park during scheduled activities and free time.

Travel Dates:
12-15 weeks Fall semester and Spring semester; 8 weeks in the Summer

1 credit per week (variable depending on Fall/Spring Semester; 3-4 credits in Summer)

Program fee:
Housing, air ticket, in-country transportation, utilities, phone, and internet provided

Other costs that student is responsible for:
ISU Tuition and Fees  
Approximately $1600 in food costs per semester (approximately $600 for food in summer)
All other incidentals
CISI health insurance: $1.31/day (for duration of program cost will be between $120-$150 total for a semester, about $50-$60 for CISI in summer)
$10 application fee
$105 study abroad admin fee (which is collected by the Study Abroad Center in 3224 MU)
