The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) Exchange The Exchange Program
The ISU exchange agreement with Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) allows ISU students to spend a semester or a year at NTNU, and a student from
NTNU can do the same at ISU. Students pay ISU tuition (financial aid and
scholarships still apply) and receive tuition credit at NTNU. Room and
board fees are paid independently.
The University
NTNU was established in 1996. NTNU is an extension of what was the University of Trondheim
and now serves approximately 20,000 students,
half of them in technology or natural sciences.
The university calendar is comprised of two
semesters, mid-August through late November and mid-January through late April, with an examination period following each semester.
Intensive Norwegian is offered from mid-July through mid-August. It is highly recommended that students take advantage of this language training. There is also an orientation program just prior to the beginning of classes for all exchange students to help you get acclimated to the city and the campus.
Students participating in this program are enrolled full-time at NTNU for one or more semesters and pay ISU tuition plus an exchange administrative fee. Students are responsible for room and board, health insurance, and other expenses in Norway.
Academic Offerings
NTNU is open to all majors. NTNU offers courses in English in the following areas:
Civil and Environmental Engineering Coastal and Marine Civil Engineering Computer and Information Science Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications Earth Sciences and Petroleum Engineering Marine Technology Mathematics Physics Industrial Economics and Technology Management Light Metals Production Linguistics English English Language and Linguistics Social Change Exercise Physiology/Sport Sciences
For a complete list of courses offered in English refer to the NTNU website.
Trondheim
Home to over 150,000 inhabitants, Trondheim is comparable in size
to Des Moines and is Norway's third largest city. Founded in the year
997, it was the first capital of Norway and remains the city in which
Norwegian kings receive their ceremonial blessing. Trondheim is
surrounded by forested hills, providing hiking in summer and
cross-country skiing in winter. Only 500 km south of the Arctic Circle,
expect snow from mid-December through mid-March and long summer days.
Program Costs
For every ISU student participating in the exchange program, an NTNU student comes to ISU. ISU students spend one semester or one academic year in Norway and pay ISU tuition and fees, plus a $360 exchange fee. Program costs do not include room and board in Trondheim, and students should plan for these additional expenses. Students can earn full academic credit and remain eligible for student financial aid from ISU. Study abroad scholarships are also available.
Eligibility
Students who are interested in applying for the Norwegian University of Science and Technology exchange program must be full-time students at ISU, have completed one year of university study prior to the beginning of their exchange period, and have an overall 3.0 GPA.
