Summer in Greece
American College of Thessaloniki (ACT) - 3 credit option

The College, City, and Regionbrochure image

Study abroad students wishing to spend a month in Northern Greece combining academic study with a truly unique cultural experience are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. Students will spend an unforgettable month in Greece's second-largest city, Thessaloniki. With a population of about a million and two large public universities, it is a human-scale city in which one in ten pedestrians is a university student. With a modern seafront, it is a Mediterranean city that has also preserved the vestiges of its Roman and Byzantine history. Visiting students are able to visit nearby Vergina with the magnificent tombs of the ancient Macedonian kings, sail in the Thermaikos bay, and take weekend trips to Chalkidiki, famous for its sandy beaches. Summertime is also a period of festivals and outdoor concerts. Many summer students find that a month of study at ACT combines well with a month of sailing or touring throughout Greece.

Academic Program

At ACT, students have a wide selection of courses, all of which are taught in English. Participants enroll in three credits in areas such as history, philosophy, psychology, political science, Greek, public relations, computer science, and finance. Included in the summer 2009 academic program, students can select an option called the Oxford Module. This unique option offers political science courseswork from Oxford University professors.

Students may choose to enroll in a six credit option during the summer session.  See 6 credit option for more information and costs associated with this option.
