Exchange Program: Tuition and Fees Explained
The term "exchange program" refers to a specific type of study abroad option in which fiscal arrangements permit a student to pay home school tuition and fees and receive similar benefits at another institution.  The tuition and fees paid by the outgoing student are used cover these costs of the incoming student.

The important word is similar, not necessarily the same.  What universities charge students for tuition and fees will vary.  Generally, schools abroad assess tuition based on the number of credit hours in which students are enrolled.   At ISU no additional tuition charge is accessed on credit beyond 12 hours.  This is not typical.  As a consequence, some exchange schools limit the number of credits a student can take (although it will cover sufficient classes to be considered full-time).  Fees in particular can vary significantly in what is covered.  Some of the items/services that ISU fees cover may not be included in the exchange benefits at the host site, since they are not included in the fees charged to their outgoing students.

For more information, please consult the ISU coordinator of your exchange program.

Accommodation has recently been reported to cost 4000 SEK/month.  The estimate above is higher to accommodate for possible raising prices.

Airfare is based on round-trip costs from Des Moines to Stockholm.

Health insurance is required of all ISU students who study abroad. ISU enrolls students in the OnCall international insurance and this is billed to the U-bill.  In addition, exchange students to KTH must also purchase (out of pocket) Swedish health insurance.  Thus, there are two different charges for health insurance in this Sp22 budget.

Please note: Some costs (room & board, incidentals, books and supplies) have been obtained from KTH in SEK (Swedish Kronor). An exchange rate of $1 = $6 SEK has been used. Further, all costs provided are estimations and will vary according lifestyle, fluctuations in the exchange rate, and housing options selected.
